G'Day, Mate, Would You Like to Marry Me?

Browsing at a boutique at Levis Commons the other day, looking at the jewelry and wire garden sculptures with my mom and her best friend, I discovered my fiance. I was picking up and trying on the faux diamond rings, reaching for bigger and bigger ones, when I found a huge peacock one. It took up about three of my fingers and I walked over to my mom, and, extending my arm towards her and putting my nose up, said in my most haughty voice, "I forgot to tell you I'm engaged". A voice to the right made our heads turn to see a tall, handsome man wearing a navy polo. That voice said, in a nice Australian accent, "It's only been three months, but sometimes you just know."I said something my mom claims was witty, but I don't recall what it was. If I'd been really smooth I would have said, "Mom, this is my fiance..." and he would supply his name, ask me for my number, and we'd meet for drinks later on. And my face wouldn't turn bright red. My mom and her friend tittered like the sorority girls they were in college, speculating that he and his friend were buying gifts for their mothers, or for their home, and discussing what their relationship status might be. They spoke my name loudly, telling me to look at "these nice drawers" that the two men were standing behind. On my part, I picked up a book and buried my face in it, pretending to be very interested in the subject material. Expect a wedding invitation for in the mail soon, and plan on traveling to Australia...

  1. Oh my goodness, Anna, that is just too funny! What a shameless flirt he was. Such a pity you didn't get his name ;)
